Historias Flamencas
March 26 2006
Carver Cultural Center Theater, San Antonio, TX
Olivia Chacon Flamenco Company with Special Guest Antonio Granjero, in "Historias Flamencas," presented by the Academia de Arte Flamenco. The company presents an encore of their work "De Noche," followed by solo dances by Antonio Granjero, Eduardo Arturo, Jackie Rodriguez, and Olivia Chacon, featuring guest singer/percussionist Francisco Orozco "El Yiyi."
Of "De Noche" the San Antonio Express-News said: "Through five segments, the work imagines how flamenco may capture facets of ordinary life during a night in a Spanish city. Chacón appeared in several numbers, as a grieving woman, a woman falling in love and in an interesting group scene where company members came out in jeans as if they were youths gathering by a street lamp to while away the time and work off that youthful angst. The choreographer's message is clear: This is a dance form that is alive and well, not a relic from a romantic Andalusian past. "

Flamenco: Truth and Beauty
July 10, 2004
Ruta Maya Coffehouse, Austin, Texas
"Flamenco: Truth and Beauty" is a show dedicated to the new wave of young flamenco artists. Born in the Americas and trained in Spain, these performers evoke the true soul of flamenco while adding the rhythmic precision, contemporary harmonies and impressionistic dance characteristic of modern flamenco. They seek to perform at the highest level of the art form, without compromise. "Flamenco: Truth and Beauty" showcases the work of guitarist Isaí Chacón and dancer Genevieve Guinn, both visiting from their home base in Madrid, Spain. Also featured are dancers Tony Uranga and Olivia, singer Chayito and percussionist John Gronbeck-Tedesco.
